Proctored Exam Procedures

  1. What is a proctored exam?
A proctored exam is one that is overseen by an impartial individual (called a proctor) who monitors or supervises a student while he or she is taking an exam. The proctor ensures the security and integrity of the exam process.
  2. How do I know if I need a proctored exam?
All state of Illinois classes require a proctored exam before any credits can be issued.
  3. What must I do to take a proctored exam?
    1. Choose an approved proctor from the list on the approved proctors page.
    2. If there is no available proctors near you, please read on for instructions on identifying and getting approval for a proctor. (You can start the process by contacting your local public library, community college or university or, if you are in the military, contact your education officer. Many of these facilities have experience in proctoring exams from various institutions and companies.)
    3. Comply with any payment schedule that may be required by your approved proctor or testing center.
    4. Schedule your exam date and time with the proctor after you have completed the online portion of your course.
    5. Have the Proctor sign the Proctor Examination Form and fax that form to  630-839-0013
  4. Who can be approved to serve as a proctor?
An acceptable proctor is someone with no conflict of interest in upholding Bellman Group, Inc.'s Academic Honor Code. Relatives, friends, spouses, neighbors, and co-workers are not acceptable proctors. Your proctor candidate may be from one of the following categories:
    1. Educational administrator's office or library at a community college, university, or high school
    2. Librarian at a public library
    3. A Learning Center Officer of higher rank than the student, if in the military
    4. College, university, or private testing center (in this case, the testing center director should be listed as your proctor)
  5. What technology must a proctor have access to at the proposed testing site?
    1. Each proctor must have:
      1. A working e-mail address
      2. Internet access in an environment conducive to learning.
  6. How do I access, complete, and submit the Proctor Approval Application?
To access this application:  Ask the proctor to go to the Proctor Approval Application Page and fill in the information.  The proctor will be contacted by Bellman Group, Inc. and given information needed to be approved.  They will then be listed in our list of approved proctors.  The process usually takes less than a week.
  7. What happens after I submit the Proctor Approval Application?
Bellman Group, Inc. will review the proposed proctor or testing center. Your proctor will be notified by e-mail if your applicant has been approved. Also, all approved proctors who agree to be listed will be added to the List of Approved Proctors website.
  8. How do I schedule my exam(s)?
    1. Contact your proctor as soon as you are ready to take your proctored exam. Note: Be sure that fees are paid in advance of the actual exam date if required by the proctoring service.
    2. Schedule a day and a time after completion of the course to take the exam with the proctor.
  9. What are the proctor's responsibilities?
    1. The proctor must ensure that all necessary technologies are available and working.
    2. Only the proctor may insert the pass code to allow the test to be taken.
    3. No copies, or printing, of the exam are to be made at any time.
    4. No person other than the student may view the exam.
    5. The proctor must verify that the student is the actual student taking the test by verifying proof of photo identification such as drivers license, passport, or other approved identification.
    6. NOTE: Fee payment for proctoring services is the responsibility of the student
    7. Academic integrity applies to all students, on campus and online, at all times! For Bellman Group, Inc.'s Academic Honor Code and Education policy for violations, go to the Academic Honor Code.
  10. What is the fee for a proctor's services?
Fees vary for the use of a testing facility and the proctor's time. Please be sure to determine if there is a fee, what it is, and when it must be paid. Testing centers often require prepayment, and your receipt for payment may serve as your ticket to the proctored exam session. These practices vary among libraries, schools, colleges, universities, and private testing centers.
